KENOSHA - Sr. Helen Peddle OP, 87, passed away at Golden Living Center, Kenosha, on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Dorothy Peddle was born April 16, 1920, to William A. and Dorothy K. (nee: Hall) Peddle in Duluth, Minn. On September 2, 1946, she joined the Racine Dominicans and at her reception in 1947, she was given the religious name Sr. Helen. She professed her first vows in 1949 and her final vows in 1955. Sr. Helen spent many years in service to others in teaching, communication work, and as a Librarian. She began her ministry in 1949 at SS. Peter and Paul, Green Bay. Other places in Wisconsin where she served, were Dominican College and St. Catherine, Racine; Gesu Parish, Milwaukee; St. John High and Grade Schools, Little Chute; and Holy Reedemer College, Waterford. She also served in LaPaz, Bolivia; St. John University, Collegeville, Minn.; and in the Communication Office of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, N.M. After moving to Siena Center, Racine, she served as a Communication Director, Librarian, and later as a Secretary and Volunteer in the Senior Companion Program. She became a resident at Golden Living Center, Kenosha, in March, 2007. Sr. Helen is survived by the Racine Dominican Sisters and Associates; her sister, Katherine P. Dixon; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers, William A. Jr. and Howard. Visitation will be in the Siena Center Chapel on Friday, February 29, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. with a Remembering service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Highway 32. Memorials to the Racine Dominican Mission Fund have been suggested. The Racine Dominicans would like to extend their thanks to the staff that cared for Sr. Helen at Golden Living Center.
